Art Basel Frazzle!

4 Dec

Piano

Art Basel Miami Beach has become one of the most prominent and well-attended cultural affairs to ever hit Miami where anything goes. During this week-long (officially only 4 days but that doesn’t stop Miami from celebrating well-beyond that time frame) frazzle, expect the unexpected. Everything from art to “art,” street fashion that pairs orange camouflage pants with a multi-colored Hawaiian shirt (yes, I saw this last night), creative food, and alcohol galore – all will happen THIS week.

There are a thousand different Basel articles and schedules out there – all very read-worthy. I will now construct my own to serve a few purposes: 1) to organize my own life and schedule 2) to coordinate with my friends 3) to let you all know of some of the best Basel events in town, and 4) because Kristine McGlinchey told me I should ūüôā

Miami’s September 2012 Events

6 Sep

It’s now the beginning of fall… Wait, where the hell did summer go? Better yet, where the hell has 2012 gone?! Craziness. Anyways, finally the weather in Miami is somewhat cooling off, the torrential downpours are hopefully over, and season is finally beginning! Let’s welcome all the tourists who flock to our city to escape their brutal winters (meh). September is always exciting because events start revving up. Here’s what’s on my agenda (subject to change – a lot):

I’m sure I’m missing some events, and I’m sure I will be adding more as we dive into September… Let me know if I’ll be running into you at any of the same events ūüôā

Whoa Baby! It’s Been A Long Time…

23 Aug

May 23, 2012… That was the last time I blogged on here! Yikes… I’m a bit embarrassed and ashamed. I’m sure you can all relate to how quickly time gets away from us. With that, and the return of fall in Miami, I have made it a priority to get back on the saddle and keep you updated with everything social media, Miami, and fun! So what’s happened in the past 3 months of my hiatus? Well…

  • I started my own social media consulting and marketing company! I still maintain an incredible relationship with my former employer Kaufman, Rossin & Co. I truly believe I have found my calling. I incorporated in May, and so far, so good. I can attribute my entrepreneurial spirit to my folks – a farmer and a teacher. For the first half of my childhood, I was raised with both parents around me all the time because farmers have flexible schedules, and my mom was our teacher (homeschooling). I realized I too have this entrepreneurial blood running through me so I merged that with my passion for social media marketing to launch AUBOOM Media, Inc. I really cannot say thank you enough to all those who have helped me get up and running! The support and advice from all my friends and networks have been incredible and have been vital to my success.
  • A lot of hot, sweaty events in Miami. I’m looking forward to saying goodbye to summer and hello to fall! I know many Miamians are already planning amazing upcoming events, and I cannot wait to attend them all ūüôā I will also be posting events again to keep you updated with all the crazy happenings.
  • SeaTweetup II planning has commenced! We’ll be sailing away on the Norwegian Sky from October 12-15, 2012. If you missed last year’s cruise, this is your chance to make it up. Plus, we have A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. perks from incredible sponsors! Current prices start at $275 per person per two-person cabin. Check out the Facebook page and BOOK NOW. I’ll send out more details soon…
  • Just living life to its fullest! I absolutely hate the “YOLO” phrase, but it’s true. You only live once. So, make the best of it!

Thanks for reading the re-introduction of my blog. I will be blogging again very soon (I promise)! I may also be adding a new blog to the works… Stay tuned ūüôā

Social Media Week Miami – Taking the Talk Offline

22 Feb

For all you social media nerds in South Florida, last week’s¬†Social Media Week Miami¬†(#SMWmiami) served as a local social media geek haven. With six panels each day spanning over five days, sessions covered a wide, but focused,¬†range of topics including personal branding, event planning, fashion, real estate, music, food, social good, mommy bloggers, and much more – all centered around social media, of course!

While each panel left me reminiscing about a helpful tip, idea, or just confirmed my own social media strategy and implementation, being part of #SMWmiami was most memorable due to all the new and old faces I was fortunate enough to meet and see. Before stepping foot into the Adrienne Arsht Center, the major host of SMWmiami, I assumed the room would be filled with familiar faces from Social Media Club South Florida, Chevy crawls, tweetups, and the like. Boy was I wrong (and pleasantly surprised)! The 150 capacity room was packed full of social media enthusiasts Рmostly new faces. This week-long event brought together PR and marketing specialists, curious minds, and lots of newbies. Each night there was a different networking event where, believe it or not, we could socialize in person. These in-person events are always the best part of social media!

Say what?

Yes! In-person networkers give us social media addicts the chance to meet the person behind the Twitter handle or brand name. I can go months of tweeting someone without ever physically meeting him/her, and then when the opportunity of meeting in person presents itself, we can skip the whole “Hi, my name is Aubrey. I’m the social media coordinator at¬†Kaufman, Rossin, an accounting firm, and¬†Lit Software, the developer of iPad apps for attorneys” elevator speech because we’ve already engaged in [online] conversation. That’s when the real relationship building begins, and I’ve met some of the most amazing people because of our online/offline interactions.

SMWmiami introduced me to very fun, intelligent, like-minded people, and I can’t wait to stay in touch (online and off). For those of you who just came out of the woodwork, are still curious about the South Florida social media community, or just want to meet new people, I definitely encourage you to join the local groups and attend events.¬†Contact me¬†if you’d like to learn about them!

SMWmiami was just a preview to what’s to come. Next up –¬†South by Southwest¬†(SXSW)-Interactive in Austin from March 9-13. Let me know if you’re coming! I’ll be launching a fun social media campaign for¬†Kaufman, Rossin¬†ūüôā

Big thanks to The brpr Group for organizing SMWmiami! All the sessions were free and available to anyone. Also, thank you to all the wonderful panelists who volunteered their time, tricks, and tips as well as AT NIGHT for taking the below photo at the Mandarin Oriental reception.

Cruise + Bahamas + Tweeps = #SeaTweetup

14 Aug

First thing’s first, I’d like to apologize for being a busy bum and not blogging since…um…end…of…May… (YIKES!) But my laziness worked out to my strategic advantage because now I can return with a BANG! *BANG*

Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to invite you to the FIRST ever #SeaTweetup!!!

#SeaTweetup = social media enthusiasts + networking + tweetups + cruising + boozing + Bahamas + social media presentations + social media scavenger hunt + special events + no work!

Organized by South Florida social media enthusiasts – Jeff Cohen @iamJeffCohen, James Echols @SoulOfMiami, Rochelle Gapere @roriffic, Annette Peikert @thepumagirl, Sebastian Rusk @sebrusk, Rich Tucker @RichTucker, and myself @Aubrey_Swanson – along with the support of Kaufman, Rossin & Co., Norwegian Cruise Line, SocialBuzzTV, Social Esquire and Soul of Miami, the world’s first ever tweetup at sea will bring together social media enthusiasts from across the globe for a one-of-a-kind 3-day/3-night networking event to build lasting relationships!

The back-story: The #SeaTweetup idea was sparked after Norwegian Cruise Line hosted their first tweetup on their largest cruise ship, The Epic. Attendees were given an amazing tour of the ship and treated to a delicious meal while tweeting #TwEpic. But then, we had to exit the Epic so that the real cruisers could board. It was kind of a bummer, especially for someone who’s never been on a cruise before! So we had a great idea – why not extend this #TwEpic idea and actually set sail?! #SeaTweetup was born ūüôā

#SeaTweetup logistics:

  • Date: November 18-21, 2011
  • Cost: $301.32 ($100 refundable deposit due by September 10th. Full payment or cancellation due by September 10th.)

Itinerary includes:

  • Meet & Tweet
  • Social Media Scavenger Hunt
  • Sail Away Tweetup & BBQ
  • Roundtable presentation – “How Can We Improve Twitter – 15 presenters in 45 minutes”
  • Show & Tell Tweetup
  • Private island excursions
  • Nassau adventures
  • Cocktail parties
  • Group dinners
  • Discussions
  • Parties
  • Anything and everything your hopes and dreams desire (as long as it’s legal)

I’m incredibly excited for this social media extravaganza at sea! I’ve never been on a cruise, and I’ve never to the Bahamas! I cannot wait to meet new people and have fun with those I already know. If you like social media/cruises/networking/partying, then I think this is the trip for you!

For more information and to join the discussion, visit the SeaTweetup Facebook Fan Page, check the #SeaTweetup hash tag and follow @SeaTweetup as well as the organizers mentioned above.

Can’t wait to jump on board with you ūüôā
