SeaTweetup II = Success!

25 Oct

It’s been almost two weeks since we set foot on board Norwegian Sky for a weekend cruise full of networking, learning, engaging, events, and parties. I have to admit, I will play favors and state that SeaTweetup II > SeaTweetup I. Maybe it was the awesome attendees, amazing sponsors, or perhaps the strengthened relationships from the first SeaTweetup, but regardless, this year’s cruise was a complete success!

Our schedule of SeaTweetup events was jam-packed from the get-go. When we boarded Norwegian Sky, we were welcomed by MillerCoors with a tasty food and beer pairing as we all introduced ourselves to each other. I feel like the first day was more so jam-packed with FOOD. After the beer and food pairing, the Sky has a poolside BBQ. Then, we enjoyed a cocktail party sponsored by CruiseDeals where we received our SeaTweetup t-shirts which everyone got to sign with their Twitter handles 🙂 Yeah, that’s how we roll! Err… Sail? THEN, that party was followed by dinner (of course, all-you-can-order). I think I gained 10lbs in the first day 😦

Saturday promised to be an amazing day full of excursions on Norwegian’s private island in the Bahamas. Little did we know, we were surrounded by huge waves all day and night which prohibited us from taking the tenders to the island. If anyone remembers last year’s SeaTweetup, we had a massive storm which also prohibited us from visiting the island. Crazy ironic. This little agenda detour gave us the day to just relax poolside and enjoy everything the ship had to offer. The SeaTweetup clan claimed ownership to the ship’s top deck, and we got to learn more about our fellow SeaTweetup-ers and soak in some warm rays.

Saturday evening marked our first Social Media Roundtable Presentations. We had a slew of talented social media speakers who all gave insightful speeches and presentations on fine-tuning our trade. Our SeaTweetup group was a mix of beginners and advanced professionals, but I think everyone ended up with tons of new tips and tricks! Of course following the presentations, we had another cocktail networker sponsored by Bacardi (you all know how much I love my rum)! Then, like clock-work, it was time for another all-you-can-order group dinner. Later on, we dressed in white and broke it down Gangnam Style at the White Hot Party (oh, we also got drenched as a mini-hurricane hit us – what fun would life be without these wild unplanned adventures?). I have to say I love the mix of presentations + networking mixers + group dinners + parties. This is how you really get to know new people 🙂

We made it to Nassau’s port of call on Sunday morning. Unlike last year’s cruise where we had most of the day to do as we please, we were honored to be welcomed by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and treated to a traditional BAHAMIAN breakfast. Yes, I typed BAHAMIAN in all caps because I idiotically kept instagramming and tweeting photos referencing them as “Bohemian.” *oopsies* I cannot begin to describe how delicious this breakfast was. Although I don’t eat seafood, I know everyone enjoyed their traditional fish breakfast dishes. Meanwhile, I indulged in (4 helpings of) yellow grits and corned beef hash *yummmmmm* We also enjoyed fresh coconut water and BAHAMIAN pastries. Seriously, one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Oh, and I almost forgot, they served us the most flavorful, sweet, plump fruit jams we’ve ever had in our lives (Bahamas – if you’re reading this and want to mail us some of those jams, please contact me for my mailing address) 🙂 After breakfast, we got to learn a lot more about the different islands the Bahamas has to offer. I eagerly await the day I can explore the other islands and go scuba diving and cliff diving!

To finish up our day in the Bahamas, we were given the unique opportunity to explore three BAHAMIAN art galleries on the island. If you ever visit the Bahamas, I highly encourage you to go off the beaten path and experience the real Bahamas culture.

And we obviously couldn’t leave Nassau without enjoying a little beach R&R…

Upon re-boarding Sky, we re-grouped for another Roundtable session where we had an intriguing Q&A sessions with @FashionWeekNYC, individual presentations, and a very informed discussion among the group. Of course, followed by another deliciously fattening dinner, some strip tease challenges (?), and partying (extra Washington Apple shots, please)!

I really want to thank all the amazing SeaTweetup committee members for pulling together an outstanding SeaTweetup II! Moreover, I want to thank all the SeaTweetup attendees who made this the best cruise evahhhh! Another thanks to our terrific sponsors for providing us with awesome entertainment and for making this cruise a real possibility. I can only cross my fingers for a future SeaTweetup III 🙂

I’m proud to say the second annual #SeaTweetup aboard Norwegian Cruise Line Sky is setting sail THIS Friday, and we’re almost completely sold out! This 3-day weekend cruise to the Bahamas will be jam-packed of amazing events and even more amazing people. I don’t want to bore you with a lengthy blog post about why you should be on board this year because I’ve already done that as well as included tons of pictures inside NCL Sky (the ship we’ll be cruising and boozing on). I’ll just let you take a look at the below agenda, pictures, and list of amazing sponsors!

For those of you who can’t join us this weekend, we still hope you’ll join us for our Bon Voyage Tweetup hosted by Epic Hotel in downtown Miami this Thursday from 6-9pm. It’s OPEN TO EVERYONE. Did I mention open bar? Seriously.

#SeaTweetup Meet & Tweet at Beach Lounge Bar

11 Sep

What are you doing on Wednesday, September 19th? I’ll tell you what you’re doing… You’re going to be drinking, eating, networking, tweeting, and learning about the second annual #SeaTweetup which is setting sail on October 12th on Norwegian Sky!

Last year’s #SeaTweetup exceeded my expectations as 45 social media enthusiasts climbed aboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s ship en route to the Bahamas. Our attendees flew from out-of-state; even from out-of-the-country! We all got to network and form friendships and business partnerships for 3 days over sponsored adult beverage parties, creating human sand castles, all-you-can-eat dinners, social media seminars, karaoke, tweeting in the middle of the ocean, gambling, and even strip shows 😉

And guess what…

This year is going to be even better! We have the same amazing planning committee PLUS outrageous new sponsors. You’re paying the normal price for a weekend cruise to the Bahamas, but you’re getting nearly all the alcohol you can drink, private island excursions, and one-of-a-kind experiences thanks to our new partners!

But don’t take my word for it…

If you’re hesitant, unsure, doubtful, or even if you’ve already bought your ticket or know you’re not available that weekend, we want you to join us at our #SeaTweetup Meet & Tweet on Wednesday, September 19th from 6:30pm to [whenever we want to go home] at Beach Lounge Bar in Sunny Isles Beach! Come meet the planning committee and partners, ask your questions and receive your answers, hear about our crazy stories from last year, and meet new social media South Floridians over delicious cocktails and Brazilian-inspired food! Plus, your first drink is FREE! Oh, and there’s free parking. You really can’t beat that. Check out event details and RSVP at https://www.facebook.com/events/347300252023070/.

Miami’s September 2012 Events

6 Sep

It’s now the beginning of fall… Wait, where the hell did summer go? Better yet, where the hell has 2012 gone?! Craziness. Anyways, finally the weather in Miami is somewhat cooling off, the torrential downpours are hopefully over, and season is finally beginning! Let’s welcome all the tourists who flock to our city to escape their brutal winters (meh). September is always exciting because events start revving up. Here’s what’s on my agenda (subject to change – a lot):

I’m sure I’m missing some events, and I’m sure I will be adding more as we dive into September… Let me know if I’ll be running into you at any of the same events 🙂

Whoa Baby! It’s Been A Long Time…

23 Aug

May 23, 2012… That was the last time I blogged on here! Yikes… I’m a bit embarrassed and ashamed. I’m sure you can all relate to how quickly time gets away from us. With that, and the return of fall in Miami, I have made it a priority to get back on the saddle and keep you updated with everything social media, Miami, and fun! So what’s happened in the past 3 months of my hiatus? Well…

  • I started my own social media consulting and marketing company! I still maintain an incredible relationship with my former employer Kaufman, Rossin & Co. I truly believe I have found my calling. I incorporated in May, and so far, so good. I can attribute my entrepreneurial spirit to my folks – a farmer and a teacher. For the first half of my childhood, I was raised with both parents around me all the time because farmers have flexible schedules, and my mom was our teacher (homeschooling). I realized I too have this entrepreneurial blood running through me so I merged that with my passion for social media marketing to launch AUBOOM Media, Inc. I really cannot say thank you enough to all those who have helped me get up and running! The support and advice from all my friends and networks have been incredible and have been vital to my success.
  • A lot of hot, sweaty events in Miami. I’m looking forward to saying goodbye to summer and hello to fall! I know many Miamians are already planning amazing upcoming events, and I cannot wait to attend them all 🙂 I will also be posting events again to keep you updated with all the crazy happenings.
  • SeaTweetup II planning has commenced! We’ll be sailing away on the Norwegian Sky from October 12-15, 2012. If you missed last year’s cruise, this is your chance to make it up. Plus, we have A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. perks from incredible sponsors! Current prices start at $275 per person per two-person cabin. Check out the Facebook page and BOOK NOW. I’ll send out more details soon…
  • Just living life to its fullest! I absolutely hate the “YOLO” phrase, but it’s true. You only live once. So, make the best of it!

Thanks for reading the re-introduction of my blog. I will be blogging again very soon (I promise)! I may also be adding a new blog to the works… Stay tuned 🙂

Cruise + Bahamas + Tweeps = #SeaTweetup

14 Aug

First thing’s first, I’d like to apologize for being a busy bum and not blogging since…um…end…of…May… (YIKES!) But my laziness worked out to my strategic advantage because now I can return with a BANG! *BANG*

Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to invite you to the FIRST ever #SeaTweetup!!!

#SeaTweetup = social media enthusiasts + networking + tweetups + cruising + boozing + Bahamas + social media presentations + social media scavenger hunt + special events + no work!

Organized by South Florida social media enthusiasts – Jeff Cohen @iamJeffCohen, James Echols @SoulOfMiami, Rochelle Gapere @roriffic, Annette Peikert @thepumagirl, Sebastian Rusk @sebrusk, Rich Tucker @RichTucker, and myself @Aubrey_Swanson – along with the support of Kaufman, Rossin & Co., Norwegian Cruise Line, SocialBuzzTV, Social Esquire and Soul of Miami, the world’s first ever tweetup at sea will bring together social media enthusiasts from across the globe for a one-of-a-kind 3-day/3-night networking event to build lasting relationships!

The back-story: The #SeaTweetup idea was sparked after Norwegian Cruise Line hosted their first tweetup on their largest cruise ship, The Epic. Attendees were given an amazing tour of the ship and treated to a delicious meal while tweeting #TwEpic. But then, we had to exit the Epic so that the real cruisers could board. It was kind of a bummer, especially for someone who’s never been on a cruise before! So we had a great idea – why not extend this #TwEpic idea and actually set sail?! #SeaTweetup was born 🙂

#SeaTweetup logistics:

  • Date: November 18-21, 2011
  • Cost: $301.32 ($100 refundable deposit due by September 10th. Full payment or cancellation due by September 10th.)

Itinerary includes:

  • Meet & Tweet
  • Social Media Scavenger Hunt
  • Sail Away Tweetup & BBQ
  • Roundtable presentation – “How Can We Improve Twitter – 15 presenters in 45 minutes”
  • Show & Tell Tweetup
  • Private island excursions
  • Nassau adventures
  • Cocktail parties
  • Group dinners
  • Discussions
  • Parties
  • Anything and everything your hopes and dreams desire (as long as it’s legal)

I’m incredibly excited for this social media extravaganza at sea! I’ve never been on a cruise, and I’ve never to the Bahamas! I cannot wait to meet new people and have fun with those I already know. If you like social media/cruises/networking/partying, then I think this is the trip for you!

For more information and to join the discussion, visit the SeaTweetup Facebook Fan Page, check the #SeaTweetup hash tag and follow @SeaTweetup as well as the organizers mentioned above.

Can’t wait to jump on board with you 🙂
